Unibikes York

The hassle-free bike support plan for students

York is a cycle-friendly city, and most students own a bike: it’s practical, cheap, healthy and eco-friendly. There’s even a bike path from the University right into town.

Unibike offers:

A brand new fully-equipped, quality bike ready for you on arrival.
Free coaching and get-into-cycling classes.
Free bike check-ups on campus.
Optional bike buy-back at end of summer term.

The cost is £159, (after a subsidy of £10 from the University of York and an £11 discount from Get Cycling CIC). These are not heavy, shortlife 'mountain bikes': they are well equipped city bikes. We hope you'll want to keep the bike for years to come, but, at the end of the summer term, you have the option of selling the bike back to us for £50.

We have access to a limited number of these bikes so act quickly to take advantage of this offer. Bike make and model subject to availability. Available with step-through or cross bar frame.

Terms & conditions

The buy-back depends on you having brought your bike to at least two of the free monthly bike doctors for a check-over during the year, so that problems can be caught early. You can also have your bike checked over at the Get Cycling workshop 22 Hospital Fields Road, (off Fulford Road), York, YO10 4DZ.
If you do decide to sell the bike back to us and there are major problems with it (e.g. structural frame damage, seriously buckled wheels, important missing components) Get Cycling reserve the right not to buy back, or to buy back for a lower amount.
We buy back only within the last two weeks of the summer term. (15th – 29th June 2012).
You own the bike. If you lose it we can only supply another at the same cost.
The coaching, the classes and the buy-back are optional.
Payment must be made in advance and includes VAT.
You undertake, as part of the scheme, to fill in a five-minute online feedback form at the end of the year.
The York Unibikes programme is supplied by Get Cycling, a registered community interest company working on behalf of the University.
